Mariposa Blues Festival May 09

Leaving Saturday morning to make the 12:00pm start time of the music, we watched the changing weather and waited until the last moment to decide to go in the car, instead of the bike. We off-loaded the bike, throwing everything in the car and we were on our way in the rain. Not going on the bike turned out to be a good thing as it rained for the first two-hours heading south on Hwy 99.

We arrive in Mariposa about noon. In addition to the Blues Festival, they have their annual Butterfly festival, complete with a parade. Too bad it was raining, making the turn-out rather sparse.

Yes, Chloe the little dog made it too.....

First stop was at our motel

We got to the fairgrounds for the festival, and had a glass of wine waiting for the show to begin.

There were three stages for the performers

This is main stage where Elvin Bishop will play later during the night.

The Staff was friendly, but I couldn't talk this guy out of his shirt.

We met a lot of really nice people there. The young fans are always cool.

The night played on, and it was time for the headliner Elvin Bishop. Scanning the security to keep the fans away from the stage, we saw our opening, and took it.
Being the first one to the stage, we had a pretty close view of the band.
It wasn't long and more joined us at the stage.

Oh, but there was a price to pay

Mariposa had received two-inches of rain the night before.

It was mud to the knees.

As you can tell, most didn't mind any.

Getting up Sunday morning, we had a continental breakfast at the motel and made our first stop in Coulterville.
We had missed a fundraiser for the owner of the Jeffrey Hotel in Coulterville housing California's oldest bar. She is a cancer survivor.
We left a donation for her with the Visitor's Bureau and checked out a small China Town there.

Next we drove through Jamestown.

Next stop was in Columbia where they had an antique fire engine competition. They were timing the trucks driving, hooking up a hose and knocking over a bucket representing hitting the fire.

Our last stop was in San Andreas at Black Bart's Hotel & Restaurant. Patty had a chicken salad sandwich, and I had their burger. This place has excellent food for your reference!
